Jason Middleton and the establishment of Versen.

My career in the jewellery industry began in 2004, when I was presented with the opportunity to join a highly regarded jeweller. From my very first day, I was captivated by the extraordinary world of fine gemstones and high end jewellery — an industry defined by beauty, rarity, and heritage.

It quickly became clear that this was more than a profession; it was a vocation. Alongside an instinctive talent for client relations and sales, I immersed myself in extensive training, developing a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship, provenance, and individuality that define truly exceptional jewellery. In this industry, learning is perpetual — each gemstone possessing its own story, character, and legacy.

My role evolved to encompass greater responsibility, including a position within the buying team, specialising in one of nature’s most elegant treasures: the pearl. As a cornerstone of the business, pearl jewellery represented both timeless sophistication and commercial strength.

International sourcing soon became integral to my work. Regular buying trips to the world’s most prestigious trade events and gem centres — including Hong Kong, Basel, Germany, and Tucson, Arizona — enabled me to source the finest materials while cultivating trusted global relationships with suppliers and artisans.

From an early age, I had harboured the ambition to establish my own company. Years of industry experience crystallised this vision, and in 2015 I founded Versen Pearls and Gemstones.

The company was created with a singular purpose: to supply the UK trade with exceptional pearl material — both loose and exquisitely set — crafted in sterling silver and gold, and defined by uncompromising quality and elegance.

Now, after a decade of continued growth and refinement, my passion for the industry is stronger than ever. It is a privilege to work with remarkable clients and suppliers, to travel the world in search of nature’s finest creations, and to remain immersed in the captivating universe of gemstones — a world where rarity, beauty, and craftsmanship converge.
